About LaFASA
"Survival – continuing to exist, especially in spite of danger or hardship"
Survivors are strong, resilient, and brave, but they cannot fight their battles alone. Survivors of sexual assault have endured unspeakable hardship and live with a wide array of dangers on a daily basis. LaFASA is the coalition agency that serves statewide sexual assault crisis centers through education, professional training, technical assistance, and community engagement resulting in safer, healthier, stronger, and better-informed communities throughout Louisiana. LaFASA also provides advocacy and legal services directly to survivors and cultivates prevention in our communities.
Our Mission
LaFASA is committed to empowering survivors, engaging advocates, and changing systems and social norms to end sexual violence in Louisiana.
Our Vision
LaFASA envisions a world free of all forms of oppression that enable rape culture and sexual violence.
Our Values
Survivors of Sexual Assault
We must center the voices of survivors in our work. We promote autonomy and self-determination, and support a survivor's informed decisions.
Prevention
Sexual violence can be prevented. Communities have the strength to change our culture and end sexual violence by promoting healthy relationships and sex-positivity.
Anti-Oppression
Sexual violence is inextricably linked to oppression. Though anyone can be a survivor, we recognize that certain members of our community are more vulnerable and we are committed to serving everyone. Vulnerable groups can include: incarcerated survivors, sex workers, undocumented immigrants, racial/ethnic minorities, and members of the LGBTQ+ community.
Trauma
All trauma has serious and far-reaching consequences. Effective trauma-informed advocacy and support is vital to healing people and communities.
Laws & Systems Change
Rape myths permeate every aspect of society. Laws, policies, and institutions can and should support survivors, be trauma-informed, and promote equality.
Perpetrator Accountability
THE ONLY PERSON TO BLAME FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IS THE PERPETRATOR.
